Haiti - Nations League 2026 : Haiti loses [2-0] to Costa Rica, but Qualifies for the quarter-finals (video)

On Sunday, October 4h, 2026, as part of the group stage of the CONCACAF Nations League, at the Ricardo Saprissa Aymá Stadium in San Juan, Costa Rica, our Grenadiers faced the Costa Rican national team, the Ticos, in the second leg of their Nations League match. The Ticos, who had been defeated 2-0 by our Grenadiers in the first leg (https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-48539-haiti-nations-league-2026-victory-for-the-grenadiers-[2-0]-against-the-ticos-of-costa-rica.html), took their revenge by defeating our Grenadiers 2-0, who suffered their first loss in four matches. Despite this defeat, our Grenadiers, second in Group A, have qualified for the quarterfinals.

Starting XI :

Spanish coach David Badia made three notable changes to his starting lineup compared to the previous match against Costa Rica's Ticos. He brought on #23 Josué Duverger (FC Cosmos Koblenz, Germany) (goalkeeper), #13 Duke Lacroix (Colorado Springs, USA), and #22 Jean-Kévin Duverne (Omonia Nicosia, Greece). David Badia consistently stuck with his 4-2-3-1 formation.

Summary : The Grenadiers presented an unrecognizable face compared to their previous victorious outings in the competition. They were quickly surprised by the aggression and dynamism of the Ticos, conceding two quick goals from Carlos Mora in the 6th minute and Andrey Soto in the 21st.

The Grenadiers seemed to have great difficulty establishing their usual passing game and creating danger in the final third. Against a very well-organized and aggressive opponent in the duels, the Grenadiers were unable to find the necessary spaces to make the difference.

The Costa Rican national team, nicknamed "Les Ticos," secured their second Group A victory at home in the second leg of their match, defeating Haiti's Grenadiers 2-0.

Les Ticos opened the scoring early in the game : Carlos Mora, well-positioned in the box, beat Haiti with an unstoppable shot in the 6th minute (1-0).

Les Ticos doubled their lead before halftime thanks to a goal from Andrey Soto in the 21st minute (2-0), a left-footed strike that sealed the match, with the score remaining unchanged in the second half.

Despite this defeat, Haiti has qualified for the quarterfinals of the 2026/2027 CONCACAF Nations League. A well-deserved qualification that rewards our Grenadiers, who won their first three matches under the guidance of Spanish coach David Badía, notably against Trinidad & Tobago https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-48518-haiti-nations-league-2026-victory-for-the-grenadiers-[3-2]-against-the-soca-warriors-of-trinidad-and-tobago.html, Costa Rica https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-48539-haiti-nations-league-2026-victory-for-the-grenadiers-[2-0]-against-the-ticos-of-costa-rica.html and the Dominican Republic https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-48570-haiti-nations-league-2026-haiti-crushes-the-dominican-republic-[4-1].html

With this qualification, Haiti continues its journey in the Nations League with the ambition of reaching the final.
